The gallery is pleased to announce two exhibitions in Nancy at its location on Rue Gambetta, just a short walk from Place Stanislas.
In keeping with the spirit of the two-person shows it has frequently hosted, the first of these exhibitions will bring together two artists from different generations: Michel Dector (*1951) and Marco Godinho (*1978), while the second will celebrate the centenary of the birth of François Morellet and Jack Youngerman*.
Michel Dector has worked as part of the duo Dector & Dupuy, with whom we have collaborated on numerous occasions, and Marco Godinho also has a long-standing relationship with the gallery. Each in their own way, they explore sensitive relationships with matter, gesture, and time.
Michel Dector creates paintings on sheets, which serve as both the support and the very material of his work. These sheets—old linens gathered here and there—carry within them an intimate, physical history—memories of sleep, traces of time, seams, embroidered initials, or signs of wear—and serve as the starting point for a painting marked by the concrete presence of the object: the textile surface retains its folds, mending, and other characteristics, which the artist reworks through drawing and color.
